The Harris & Ewing, Inc. Collection of photographic negatives includes glass and film negatives taken by Harris & Ewing, Inc., which provide excellent coverage of Washington people, events, and architecture, during the period 1905-1945.

Harris & Ewing, Inc., gave its collection of negatives to the Library in 1955. The Library retained about 50,000 news photographs and 20,000 studio portraits of notable people.

Approximately 28,000 negatives have been processed and are available online. (About 42,000 negatives still need to be indexed.)

Huge postcard sent Minnesota Senator. Washington, D.C., May 2. Said to be the largest postcard ever sent through the mail, this 4x6 message urging passage of a bill to provide sick and annual leave for substitute employees of the Post Office Department, was received today by Senator Ernest Lundeen of Minnesota, from the Minneapolis Substitute Committee of the National Federation of Post Office Clerks. It took $1.50 in stamps to carry the card. Officers of the National Federation of Post Office Clerks are shown with the Senator shortly after the card was delivered. Governor Lloyd Stark of Missouri conferred with President Roosevelt today and said the discussion did not touch on the impending vacancy in the Secretaryship of the Navy.
