1 Winding Way (House), Binghamton, Broome County, NY

description

Summary

Significance: 1 Winding Way is one of approx. 45 structures built by Walton Dwight for his suburban housing project. This house and the others like it were all known as "Dwightsville Cottages". Dwight hired a well-know area architect, T.I. Lacey to design the cottages which would make up the bulk of the Dwightsville Project. This structure is characterized by the ornate latticework on the front porch, decorative brackets and posts, and the simple rectangular shape which was common in all the cottages. Also of interest, there are tin ceilings present in the dining room, living room, and two of the upstairs bedrooms.
