1900 Block North Twenty-Third Street & Judson Street (Houses), West side of North Twenty-third Street & east side of Judson Street, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA
Summary
Significance: These are semi-detached residences that, while containing footprints representative of most urban dwellings being constructed in North Philadelphia during the last quarter of the 19th century, display fashionable Victorian detailing that sets them apart from their plainer neighbors. Emphatic rooflines, corbelled brickwork, and decorative banding all contribute to their internally conventional, but externally unique street-faces. While not as imposing as the dwellings lining the premier east-west and north-south avenues, this block retains a street presence and care in appointment that indicates a solidly middle-class intention for the residences.
