Summary
1988 Charles E. Peterson Prize, Entry
Significance: The bungalow is a true American vernacular building pervasive across the whole continent. Early references to the form date from the late 1800's with the first decades of the twentieth century seeing the height of its popularity. The house, built in c. 1923, is a largely intact representative of typical bungalows built in the mid-Atlantic coastal region. It is one of a series of nearly identical houses on adjacent lots with variations in porches, roof forms, and fenestration.
