Summary

Print shows a beggar maid (Fanny Kemble, who married Pierce in 1834 and retired from the stage) holding play-bill, "beggar's petition," and a sheet of paper that states "Pity kind Yankees, friends to Humanity, give me a rich husband and I will be gone." She confronts a fancily dressed woman, holding a paper that states "Beggars Opera. A Bold stroke for a husband." The haughty woman says, "Mercy God! what's here? A poor bread-hunter!!!!" Includes several lines of verse.

Caption continues: "Born to good luck," by "Scene-shifting" in Fortunes Frolicks;" or the English beggar Girl's elevation to a Butler's Lady!!!
Entered according to act of Congress, in the year 1835, by James Akin, in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
