A "good" road in Albania. This picture gives some idea of the transportation difficulties the American Red Cross workers had to overcome in taking relief to the remote mountain districts of the Balkans. Supplies were transported by mule and pack horse, while the roads are nothing more than goat trails in most cases. This picture shows a Red Cross caravan on what the Albanian say is a "good" road. On the rear pack horse sits a Red Cross doctor with a handkerchief on his head to protect him from the hot sun
