Summary

Significance: The Abbett Avenue Bridge is a late 19th Century (1896) single span pin connected Pratt pony truss. It is a representative example of 19th Century bridge construction. The bridge was originally constructed in 1896 and the road deck was reconstructed in 1941. It was a two-lane structure traversing the Whippany River which was accessible to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. It was 73 feet long, 35 feet wide, and had a sidewalk on each side.
