Adam Keeling House, Keeling Road, London Bridge, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Significance: Together with the Adam Thoroughgood House and the Weblin House, the Keeling House represents improvements in gentry housing in the Chesapeake in the first decades of the eighteenth century. Dendrochronological analysis suggests the Keeling House was constructed around 1735, and the presence of a central passage place the building at the forefront of the status-bearing houses that had two stories and plans two rooms deep seen throughout Tidewater.

Architectural details distinguishing the Keeling House include Flemish bond brickwork with glazed headers and glazing that forms rakes in the upper gables as well as paneling on the interior that features ceiling-height pilasters on either side of the fireplace and a stair with a closed stringer, classical balusters, molded stair nosing, and a pulvinated frieze.
