Anaconda Historic District, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Building, 217 Main Street, Anaconda, Deer Lodge County, MT
Summary
Significance: This three-story brick structure, built in 1914, was the headquarters of the Elks' organization until 1964. The second and third floor exterior retain the original stone capped brick pilasters. The first floor facades have been remodeled. The interior store space was formerly occupied by a furniture store and a butcher shop. Ed's Radio and T.V. and Hitching Post Books presently conduct business here. The Knights of Columbus use the lodge rooms on the upper floors. The Anaconda Chapter of the B.P.O.E. was organized in 1892 and has served an active role in community affairs since its inception.
