Apples sold by weight. In France the apple vendor's cart is supplied with scales, for an apple has no fixed price, it is being sold by weight, at so much a pound. In the height of the season, ordinary apples sell for from 50 to 60 centimes a pound, a pound being five or six apples. At the old rate of exchange they would cost about 10 cents. Better grade apples sell for a franc to a franc and a half a pound, twenty to thirty cents
