Significance: Augustus Lutheran is the oldest unaltered Lutheran church in the United States. Constructed in 1745, the church illustrates 18th century German vernacular traditions of design and construction. Its founder and first pastor was Henry Muhlenburg, generally considered the father of Lutherism in America. Augustus Lutheran Church is not a recognized National Historic Landmark.
