Ayudar, almas queridas (Let Us Help, Dear Souls) [textual transcription]
Summary
Category: The Passion
Source: The New Mexican Alabado by Juan B. Rael
Collector's notes: This transcription is based on five variations. The following verses are not in the Manassa, Colorado recording: 13, 15, 18, 19. The first part of this ballad contains an exhortation to the faithful to come join the Virgin Mary in her sorrows. In the remaining portion of the hymn, the Passion of Our Lord is passed in review, and much of this lyric is in dialogue form, with the Virgin Mary doing most of the speaking both summoning mothers in general to share her sorrows and addressing her Son.
