Summary
Significance: The Bachman House is believed to have been built ca. 1825 for Alois Bachman, a German immigrant and tavern keeper. The house is built into an embankment, similar to many early Pennsylvania stone houses, with the first floor level with the top of the embankment and the lower floor facing out from the hillside. The house, constructed of two square stone pavilions and connected by a wide overhanging roof and central breezeway, is similar to the dogtrot plan.
