Berlin's new subway. A new crosstown subway designed to relieve the downtown congestion is being dug in Berlin much after the manner of subway building in New York. While under construction the street is closed to vehicle traffic the pedestrian traffic being provided for by foot bridges over the regular sidewalks. Heavy steel girders form the foundation for the street, the subway being directly under it
