Brownie Wills, daughter of Quentin and Anne Barrett
Summary
Event: Interview with Quentin and Ann Barrett.
Quentin Barrett is descended from R.E. Barrett, who opened Raleigh County's oldest general store at the mouth of Dry Creek in the 1800s. Both Quentin and his wife, Anne (who is from Mingo County), taught for many years in the schools on Marsh Fork, and Quentin also served as a school principal.
In the 1940s and '50s, Quentin worked with Rock Creek musicians Gilbert Massey and Andrew Burnside to develop an act for presentation at statewide folk festivals put together by Patrick Garner.
