Significance: This gatepost, originally on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol, is now located at the southwest corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. It is a companion to three other posts and a gatehouse that were relocated to the corners of Constitution Avenue and 15th Streets, N.W. (See HABS Survey Numbers DC-31 and DC-35).
