Summary
Significance: Built by John Carroll in 1825, this one and half story house typifies the early Mt. Desert homestead. Carroll, who had come to America in 1814 at the age of 24, purchased 24 acres at the base of St. Sauveur Mountain for "Forty Milled Spanish Dollars" and built his house with a view of the ocean to the southeast.
