Significance: Le Roy is a small town in central Illinois that is largely supported by surrounding farms and agricultural businesses. Corn and soybean are the principal crops. Platted in 1835 on a grid that conformed to the township subdivisions of the old Northwest Ordinance, the town grew slowly until the arrival of the Big Four railway in 1870. Named for Le Roy, New York, by one of its settlers, it occupies land once roamed by the Kickapoo Indians...
