Central of Georgia Railway, Savannah Repair Shops & Terminal Facilities, Bounded by West Broad, Jones, West Boundary & Hull Streets, Savannah, Chatham County, GA

Significance: The Central of Georgia Railway, Savannah Repair Shops are significant because they represent the major site component of one of the earliest attempts in the United States to plan and develop a wholly comprehensive and integrated railroad repair, administration, passenger and freight facility at a single site. The shops were designated a National Historic Landmark on June 2, 1978. The Passenger-Station and Train Shed, which is part of the total site, was designated a National Historic Landmark separately on December 8, 1976, because of the special significance of the train shed. It is the oldest of the eleven known surviving long-span, trussed roof, train sheds in the United States.
