Significance: The Chisolm House on Kenilworth Avenue, in Garrett Park, Kensington, Maryland, is an excellent example of one of the earliest, but fully developed, four-square Queen Anne style frame dwellings in the Untied States. Constructed in 1889 or 1890 and featured in a 1890 promotional pamphlet of the Metropolitan Investment and Building Company, developers of Garrett Park, the house combines the exuberant detail of the Queen Anne style of the 1880's with the four-square plan. It exemplifies the best of residential architecture being created in the developing suburbs of the 1890's. The Chisholm House was the first of only two four-square house types built by the Metropolitan Investment and Building Company in Garrett Park. Garrett Park, platted in 1887, is typical of 19th century railroad suburbs.
