Summary
Significance: This modest 2 1/2 story frame house with one room per floor was built about 1826. In 11831, it was purchased by Comly RIch using a loan he obtained from the newly organized Oxford Provident Building Association. The house thus became the first one in America to be financed by a savings and loan association. The Oxford Provident was modeled on similar English self-help organizations which provided working men with the necessary capitol to purchase a home...
