Concord Gas Light Company, Gasholder House, South Main Street, Concord, Merrimack County, NH

Significance: In service from 1888-1952, is the last structure of its kind in the U.S. still containing its original gasholder. Similar structures were a common feature in the urban areas of New England and upper New York. This one was built to increase the company's storage capacity and was retired when a natural gas pipeline reached Concord. This gasholder house and tank appear to be typical of those built in the late 19th century. The gasholder in this building is of the single lift type and is constructed of riveted iron plates.
