Crawford-Governor Porter House, Service Building, 407 Dunlap Street, Paris, Henry County, TN
Summary
Significance: This brick structure measures 18'-2" (north to south) x 29'-1" (east to west), plus a 5'-0" deep porch on the south side. The building has 12" thick walls with plaster interior surfaces. There are two rooms within, the one to the west measuring 8'-4" x 16'-2", that to the east measuring 18'-4" x 16'-4". The latter has a 7'-9" wide fireplace mass, the opening of which is 5'-7" wide. It has been closed up. Floors are 3 1/4" pine boards. There is no ceiling. The structure has a gable roof with the south slope extended to cover the porch. There are two chimneys, one at each end. The chimney on the west end has been attached to the exterior wall. The south side, three double-hung (6/4) windows on the north and one window (six lights) on the west. The building is 22'-5" east of the house. The original purpose of this building has not been ascertained, but it is possible that it was a slaves' quarters or kitchen, or both.
