1992 Charles E. Peterson Prize, Honorable Mention
Significance: This building is highly significant. The sturdy design of this building is uniquely adapted to the milling process and mill machinery employed at Longleaf. In addition to supporting the massive machinery, the timber framework was able to absorb the constant shocks and vibration of the operating mill. It is imperative that the building be restored and maintained. Constructed in 1892. Building was remodeled around 1910, and again in 1956 or 1957. The mill was powered by steam until electric motors were installed during remodeling in the 1950s. The band mill on the west side of the mill was also installed at this time to replace a circular saw.
