Significance: The Davol Mills were constructed beginning in 1867-1868 (No. 1 Mill). They are the only remaining major mill buildings in the city with mansard roofs. The Number One Davol Mill was built (of brick) in 1868 and three years later the Number Two portion was constructed along Rodman Street. The buildings were originally four stories, and later the fifth stories with French mansard roofs and dormers were added. The structures along Plymouth Avenue were built in 1890.
