Summary

A boxwood performance head joint with an approximated proper embouchure hole was made for the instrument by C. E. Folkers, former Curator of the Dayton C. Miller Collection. See DCM 1495. Scanned separately with DCM 1495, with DCM 1495 on left, and DCM 507 on right.
Instrument type: Flute in C
Medium: Figured boxwood, stained reddish brown, ivory cap and ferrules, brass key. Extra head of boxwood.; 61.8 cm., 64.65 cm.
Key Holes System: 1 key, square flap. Key not original.

Mark Additional: Mark on all sections. Mark on head is backward: · H · I Mark on performance head: C E FOLKERS
Condition: Embouchure hole has been crudely altered, to an oval shape at the exterior with crude undercutting, not compatible with the exterior shape.
Provenance: Jean Mignolet, Denver, Colorado, 1 Oct. 1925, who purchased it from C. Fontaine, Brussels.

Miller collection in the Library of Congress, contains nearly 1,700 flutes and other wind instruments, statuary, iconography, books, music, trade catalogs, tutors, patents, and other materials mostly related to the flute. It includes both Western and non-Western examples of flutes from around the world, with at least 460 European and American instrument makers represented. Items in the collection date from the 16th to the 20th century.
