Declaration in Tazewell County Commissioners for Use of People vs Coghlan et al, [Law papers].
Summary
Autographed document, signed by Abraham Lincoln.
Summary: Coghlan apparently failed to perform his duty as constable. The Tazewell County Commissioners, for the use of the People, for the benefit of Clapp, retained Stuart and Lincoln and sued Coghlan and his sureties on Coghlan's constable's bond in an action of debt to recover the $500 penalty of the bond. Coghlan and others motioned the court to dismiss the case, and the court granted the motion.
