Demurrer in People v. Moore et al, [Law papers].
Summary
Appears to be in Lincoln's hand.
Summary: In an original suit before the Illinois Supreme Court, the State of Illinois sued Moore and his eleven sureties to collect $200,000 for the breach of a tax collector's bond. The attorney general charged Moore with neglect of duty in failing to collect $16,931.86 in taxes assessed for 1857. The defendants retained Lincoln but defaulted, and the Court ordered them to pay the $200,000 debt on the forfeited bond, and the jury assessed damages at $14,284.11.
