Summary

Print shows a large audience at the Broadway Tabernacle attending the annual distribution of the American Art Union prizes and lottery of paintings by American artists; the galleries are full and many well-dressed men and women are standing in the foreground, an indication of the rising interest in fine art collecting in New York City. There is a simple chandelier at center and globes for gas lighting around the balcony, there is also a large organ in the background.
