Summary
Significance: The Eagle Cotton Mill was a leading producer of cotton twine and yardage in Madison during the late nineteenth century. This is the most extensive example of a nineteenth-century industrial complex surviving from the days when Madison was a prospering waterfront trade center on the Ohio River. The Cotton Mill's principal proprietors, the Richard Johnson family, were locally prominent citizens involved in several of Madison's large-scale industrial and banking operations.
