Summary

Engraving shows the fortified city of Magdeburg, Germany under attack in 1631. Smoke and flames are seen in parts of the city. Also shown are locations of additional fortifications and locations of troops on the outskirts of the city and on the ooposite bank of the Elbe River. The Protestant city of Magdeburg was under siege by imperial and Catholic League forces from November 1630 until 20 May 1631. Descriptive key for locations of churches and other buildings and landmarks are identified in print labeled A-R and 1-10 at end of final column of text.
