description

Summary

The French army entering the city of Strasbourg. The Strasbourg Cathedral is to the left in the background. Strasbourg was the capital of Alsace-Lorraine. After the Franco-Prussian War Napolean III agreed to return Strasbourg to Germany in the Peace of Frankfurt of 1871. The cathedral itself had been damaged through the centuries by different wars and peoples. It was totally renovated in the late 19th century after the Franco-Prussian War and it was returned to France as part of the peace settlement along with Alsace and Lorraine.
