Summary
Significance: The Eureka Post Office was the first federal building erected in the city. The building was constructed at the peak of the Tintic Mining District's Prosperity and has continuously housed Eureka's main post office for more than seventy years. The building was designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect for the U.S. Treasury Department, under the administration of James A. Wetmore, Acting Supervising Architect. When this building was documented in 1996, a new post office was under construction near the eastern edge of town.
