F. H. Hartz House, Commercial Street, Eagle Pass, Maverick County, TX
Summary
Significance: The F. H. Hartz House was built in stages between 1875 and 1880. The house is located on the site of the "California Camp," a stopping place for travelers on their way to the California Gold Rush of 1849. The home's smooth plaster walls, tall vertical windows and elaborate Victorian detailing illustrate a fine example of a southwestern border interpretation of the Italianate style.
