Fort McCoy, Building No. T-1025, North side of South Tenth Avenue, Block 10, Sparta, Monroe County, WI

description

Summary

Significance: Building T-1025 is a Ward, Type D-H, with a 26 bed capacity. There are two such buildings in the hospital area, with the other example being Building T-1043. The plan for these buildings, 1100-665, is a major revision of the Combination Ward, Type W-2, based on Plan Number 700-463 (see drawings reproduced for Building T-1022, HABS NO. WI-308-AP-1). The twelve Type W-2 wards located in the vicinity of Buildings T-1025 and T-1043 allow comparison of these two ward types side by side. Outwardly the buildings look virtually the same, except that the doors at the southeast end of the Type D-Hs are four light over three panel units, and the doors in the same location on the Type W-2s are five panel units. The main changes are to the interior: the space for a nurse's station and nurse's toilet was created from a consolidation of the ward office and the examining and treatment room on Plan Number 700-463 into a single room for both functions on Plan Number 1100-665; the flipping of the kitchen and ward toilet from one side of the corridor to the other also accommodated this change.
