Francis D. Perry House, 678 Pequot Road, Southport, Fairfield County, CT

Significance: The Francis D. Perry house was erected in 1832, and is one of two Greek Revival structures in Southport which was designed with a five-columned front portico. The other, the Henry Perry House, 45 Westway Road (Conn-305), was his brother's and also erected in 1832. It is quite possible that they were designed or built by the same person. In keeping with high-style American architecture of this period, this wooden classical temple is a translation of the prototypical stone temple of Europe. Francis Perry was a prominent banker in Southport, and a devoted member of the Trinity Parish. After his wife's death in 1893, the Perrys gave their residence to Trinity to be used as the Rector's residence.
