Summary
Significance: The powerhouse was built to generate electrical power via hydroelectric turbines and generators, using the water impounded in Lake Sakakwea as its energy source. The electricity feeds into the Western American Power Administration grid. The powerhouse serves in its original function as intended by policies set forth in the Pick-Sloan Plan for improvements on the Missouri River, enacted by a 1944 Congressional flood-control bill.
