Significance: Built 1741-43, the Gemein Haus was the second building erected in the Bethlehem Moravian community after its establishment in 1741, built of legs, it is one of the largest such structures in the country. Serving as the community house for the new settlement, the Gemein Haus contained kitchen facilities, chambers for families and choirs, dormitories, a chapel, and space for other community activities. With the rapid expansion of the community, new buildings were erected to accommodate the various choirs and the function of the Gemein Haus gradually changed...
