Grog-y-nog, one of the most beautiful country estates in Wales, has been offered to the American Red Cross for use as a convalescent home for American soldiers by its owner, Major David Davies, a wealthy Welsh member of the House of Commons. "The house is offered", writes Major Davies, "as a small tribute for the noble efforts which your countryman are making to advance the cause of liberty and progress in the world. Thousands of my fellow-Welshmen have emigrated to the United States and probably your soldiers of Welsh extraction would like to spend their convalescence in the country of their forefathers"

Significance: This solidly built house in the Ecole style of the Neo-Grec was constructed by one of Rochester's leading contractors. It was sited facing Rochester's prestigious 19th century residential street, East Avenue. It was demolished in 1968.
