Glen Lake Sanatorium, Superintendent's Residence, County Road 4 at County Road 67, Minnetonka, Hennepin County, MN
Summary
Significance: The Superintendent's Residence (Building 1) was built in 1924, as part of the general expansion of the facility. For 25 years (from 1924-1949), this was the home of Dr. Ernest G. Mariette and his wife Anna Jones Mariette. Dr. Mariette was instrumental in developing Glen Lake's reputation as one of the best sanatoria in the region. Under his direction, the sanatorium expanded to one of the largest in the United States. Anna Jones Mariette was a registered nurse in charge of the nursing school field work at the sanatorium for many years. In March 1977, the building was leased to Alanon, a program for families of alcoholics.
