Summary
Significance: Clingmans Dome Road provides access to Clingmans Dome, the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at 6,642'. The road follows the main ridge of the Smokies, offering views into the valley of Deep and Noland creeks. The transportation system of Great Smoky Mountains is representative of NPS park road design and landscape planning throughout the country. Much of the work was undertaken by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.
