Significance: Grimes County Courthouse in Anderson, Texas, is a two-story masonry structure built in the early 1890's. The Italianate courthouse is built of hand molded brick and local stone trim. The steeply pitched roof is surmounted by a central wooden cupola. The district courtroom is located on the second floor and is accessible from both interior and exterior stairs. The exterior frame stairs on the south were added to the original design prior to 1918. Built on a rise at the intersection of Buffington Avenue and Main Street, the Courthouse is a focal element in the town. It was recorded as a Texas Historical Landmark in 1965 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974...
