Group of peasants on the road near Korec in the territory mose recently liberated from the Bolsheviki. This district received its salt supply from the Black Sea and from the Galician salt mines. For a long period both these sources were cut off by military operations and the price of salt rose to 40 marks ($10 under normal exchange rates) a pound. The people shown in this group were liberated from the Bolsheviki two days before the picture was taken and were immediately proceeding 30 kilometres to Kowel to secure a supply of salt
