Hathaway House, 1001 West Riverside Avenue, Muncie, Delaware County, IN
Summary
Significance: The house was built by Doctor Stephen Hathaway of Columbus, Ohio, around 1862. It was one of the first homes built west of the White River in the Muncie area and became the center of what was then Riverside City. Different members of the Hathaway family lived in the house until 1910. Since then it has exchanged ownership several times until purchased by the Delta Tau Delta Housing Corporation of Muncie in 1967, which is the present owner. The general style of the house is Federal, consisting basically of a simple wood cornice beneath the gabled roof, and dormers allowing light into the attic.
