The most popular man in Albania. Lieut. Col. William Warfield, of Baltimore, MD., director of the American Red Cross unit to Albania. Under his charge are such varied activities as hospitals, public nursing, playgrounds, dispensaries and schools. He is known in the most remote mountain villages and many Albanian feuds have been discontinued at his request in order that the Americans under him could carry on their relief work in safety

American 'girl' on the job in Albania. In the course of a day Miss Agnes Drummond of Alton, Ill., (at the desk) member of the American Red Cross in charge of relief distribution in Scutari, Albania, considers the needs of scores of destitute and poverty stricken natives, many of them once prosperous or at least far from beggary. The picture shows a corner of one of the warehouses rooms and the shelves of American clothing contributed to the ragged, almost naked people by Red Cross Chapters in the United States. The groom was married on the day he was discharged from the American Red Cross Hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound received in feudal warfare

Exhibit "A" One Dead Man. As a warning to evil doers, the policemen of Albania, exhibit all the dead men they bring in from the mountain raids. "Thieve's Stone" the official name of the slab on which these bodies are laid, is directly across the street from an American Red Cross relief station from which astonished Americans for the first time viewed this unusual custom. Standing behind the dead man is the policeman who did the fatal shooting. The dead man, it is all-aged, had committed a series of daring robberies in the mountains

Albanian girls want to look like Americans. Albanian girls, member of the Junior Red Cross of America vocational classes in Elbasan learning to make their own clothing after American ideas. With the end of Turkish domination in their country many of the women and girls who have always worn the familiar baggy trousers of the Oriental are now anxious to adopt western styles of clothing and have requested 'Junior' social workers who are instructing them in sewing, cutting and other branches of domestic science to teach them to dress like American children

Albanian nurses trained by Americans. Head nurse, Miss Lucy Joachim (at right of picture) of New York City, and Miss Agnes Eubank, American Red Cross nurse to the Balkans from South Charleston, West Virginia, and four native Albanian nurses who are under their instruction in the Tirana, Albania hospital. Red Cross hospitals throughout the Balkan countries are tending to stimlate the medical and nursing professions. As in many other countries of Europe, where hospital relief work has been carried on extensively, the scientific surgical and general nurses of America have become the models for foreign women who see the possibilities of raising this profession in their countries to the American standard
