Hereford steers in feedlot on Tom Reed farm. They are fattened and ready for market. Mr. Reed said that all of the trees in the background had been planted by farmers and ranchers not very long ago as wind breakers. His mother told him that when his father first brought her there from Iowa she used to stand at the window and cry when she looked across the plains and saw the train going back east. That was about six or eight miles away, but now you can only see a mile or two. He has seventy head of cattle in feedlot and 250 head on grass
