Highland Hotel, Old King's Highway & Highland Road, Truro, Barnstable County, MA
Summary
Significance: A two-story "Captains House," Federal style, wooden, provincial, only house of its type, so far discovered, within the proposed Cape Cod National Seashore area. Horace Snow, Sr., Truro antiquarian, said this structure was an old Lodge or stage coach stop on the Old King's Highway, and its original name was the "Highland Hotel." He related local tradition to the effect that Thoreau and Daniel Webster had stayed there.
