Horticultural Hall, Kansas State University Campus, Manhattan, Riley County, KS

description

Summary

Significance: Horticultural Hall was built as part of a major expansion program at Kansas State University during the early twentieth century. The design is a late example of the Richardsonian Romanesque widely used for institutional buildings in the region. The exterior is distinguished by rough face native limestone and an overscaled syrian arch defining the entry. Interior rooms are organized around a large central stair with free classical detailing that is among the most notable interiors on the campus.
