1993 Charles E. Peterson Prize, Entry
Significance: Dr. John C. Hughes purchased a lot from Salley Ragland on March 18, 1853. The structure housing his residence and office was erected soon after. The existing house stands as one of the finest examples of the Greek Revival style in the city. The single pile house is adorned with rich articulation such as Doric styled brick pilasters and a porch with columns modeled after the Ionic order of Llissus. The residence is now owned by Virgil Marshal.
