Summary
French and Italian flags crossed. Italy had joined the Triple Alliance with Germany and Austia-Hungary in 1882, but had declared its neutrality in 1914. At this time, both sides, knowing of Italy's interest in colonial expansion, tried to influence Italy over to their side. In 1915, the Triple Entente agreed to Italy's demands for colonial territories and Italy came into the war on the side of the Allied Powers.
